Hauppauge is about to get a whole lot tastier: Relish, the excellent eatery in the heart of Kings Park, is opening a second location there later this fall. Taking over the long-vacant Pizza Hut space on Route 111, the restaurant will serve its elevated diner-style fare right beside Branchinelli’s.

“We are so excited to join the Hauppauge community,” says Don Brown, who owns and operates Relish with his wife Christy. “We’ve been trying to get into this building in particular for two-and-a-half years, so it’s amazing to finally be in and making this happen.”

Plans for the space include outdoor seating, garage doors that will bring fresh air into the dining room, and modern, Hamptons-style decor. The menu will largely be the same as at the Kings Park location, but expanded thanks to the new location’s much larger kitchen.

Relish will take over the long-vacant Pizza Hut building on Hauppauge’s Route 111.

“It’s amazing what we’ve been able to do with the kitchen in Kings Park, because it’s actually very limited, as the infrastructure of that building was built in 1940,” says Brown. “In Hauppauge, we’ll have a much more advanced kitchen, so it will be exciting to see what we’ll do with the extra space. We’ll be hiring sous chefs, with our goal being to turn good sous chefs into executive chefs themselves.”

Expanded, too, will be the restaurant’s beverage offerings. In Hauppauge, Relish will offer a full bar, with everything from top-shelf spirits to local wine and beer.

“We obviously don’t aim to be a liquor bar or anything like that,” says Brown, “but we’re excited to say we will finally be offering guests a bar menu.”

Brown is also excited to report that a third location of Relish is already in the works.

“I won’t say where just yet, because right now we’re all just really focused on Hauppauge,” says Brown. “We love it here. We’re right around the corner from beautiful apartment buildings, just down the road from the high school, and steps away from Branchinelli’s. When we first saw this building, we knew it would be perfect. We thought: Why not move in right next door?”
