Dan’s Taste of Summer Is Back and Bigger Than Ever

Dan’s Papers—the iconic Hamptons-based publication founded by Dan Rattiner in 1959—turns 60 this summer, and rather than mark the occasion with the traditional 60th anniversary gift, diamonds, they’re offering Long Island something even better: The return (and expansion!) of their legendary summer event series, Dan’s Taste of Summer.

Presented by Out East, Dan’s Taste of Summer is a series of culinary events that highlight the best of the Hamptons, the North Fork, greater Long Island, and New York City. The events draw chefs from all across our region to bring attendees their best dishes while they enjoy live music, drink local wines, beers and signature cocktails, and mingle amid more photo opportunities than you can count.

The events are spectacles for every sense. The food is excellent, the drinks are plentiful, and Dan’s has been known to bring in everything from celebrity chefs to aerialists to (both figuratively and literally) raise the bar.

This year, Dan’s Taste of Summer will kick-off with Dan’s Rosé Soirée on Sunday, May 26 at the Southampton Arts Centre. The event, true to its name, will feature over 30 different rosé wines from the East End and beyond, and small bites from top local restaurants including Kingfish, Calissa, Union Cantina, and more. Tickets start at $145 per person.

Next up will be Dan’s Chefs of the Hamptons on Saturday, June 29th at Topping Rose House in Bridgehampton. New this year, this event will bring together some of the South Fork’s most revered chefs—including Drew Hiatt & Jean-Georges Vongerichten of Jean-Georges at Topping Rose House, Joe Realmuto of Nick & Toni’s, Eric Miller of Bay Kitchen Bar, Sam McCleland of Beacon, Jeremy Blutstein of Gurney’s Star Island Resort & Marina, Courtney Sypher of Sen, Jason Weiner of L&W Market, and Carissa Waechter of Carissa’s Bakery—for a one-night-only intimate dining experience. A portion of ticket sales from the dinner will benefit Guild Hall of East Hampton. Tickets are $500 per person.

On Saturday, July 13, Dan’s Chefs of the North Fork will return to The Halyard in Greenport. Back for its second year, this North Fork culinary event unites many of the region’s most celebrated chefs, including Stephan Bogardus of The Halyard, Matty Boudreau of Preston House & Hotel, Brian Wilson of North Fork Table & Inn, Noah Schwartz of Noah’s, Jennilee Morris and Adam Kaufer of Grace & Grit and more. The event centers around a 5-course pairing dinner followed by an array of decadent desserts. Tickets are $165 per person.

Dan’s GrillHampton returns to Bridgehampton’s Fairview Farm at Mecox on Friday, July 19. The annual event—which sees local chefs competing against NYC-based chefs in a grill-off—is a Hamptons summer staple. Celebrity judges Adam Richman and Scott Feldman will ultimately choose which chef and which team—Hamptons or New York City—will take home the trophy this year. Tickets start at $99 per person.

And then there’s the big one: Dan’s Taste of Two Forks will return on Saturday, July 20 to Bridgehampton’s Fairview Farm at Mecox. The event, now in its ninth year, brings together the best restaurants and wineries from each of the East End’s twin forks for a massive celebration of everything that makes our region so delicious. Confirmed restaurants include The Frisky Oyster, Mirabelle, North Fork Chocolate Company, Spiro’s, Southampton Social Club and Saaz Indian. Tickets start at $189 per person.

The series’s penultimate event, Dan’s 60 Summers Gala, will take place on Friday, August 2 at Gurney’s Star Island Resort & Marina in Montauk. New this year, this event will celebrate Dan’s 60th summer in the Hamptons—and founder Dan Rattiner’s 80th birthday—while showcasing some of Montauk’s most celebrated food from restaurants such as Scarpetta Beach, the soon-to-be-open Showfish, Gosman’s and Duryea’s. Tickets are sold in pairs for $399.

And finally, Dan’s Taste of Summer will wrap up with a waterfront fiesta on Saturday, August 3, with Dan’s Corona MonTaco at Gurney’s Star Island Resort & Marina in Montauk. Now in its third year, this tasting event features fresh culinary takes on classics such as enchiladas, mollete, burritos, tostadas, ceviche and, of course, tacos—with endless margaritas to wash everything down! Tickets start at $129 per person.
