For as long as we have roamed the Earth, the age-old question of “What’s for dinner?” has plagued busy families across the globe. No matter how big or small your family unit is, dinner always needs to be served.
Even when you don’t feel like cooking.
So, what’s a person to do when they’re just too tired (or too busy) to whip something up from scratch? What does one do when they’re sick of eating tv dinners and fast food? Well, this is where The Chef’s Table Long Island steps in for a few select communities on the South Shore.
Owned and operated by husband-and-wife team, Craig and Denise Bedell of West Islip, this small, meal delivery service company provides restaurant quality meals right to your door. Chef Craig, a Culinary Institute of America-trained chef with over 25 years of experience, handles the cooking while Denise takes care of the business side of things.
“People kept saying how jealous they were that my husband is a chef because Craig can literally make anything. Cooking is an art for him, a true talent,” says Denise. “So, we started toying around with the idea that the delicious food that Craig makes for our family would be perfect to serve to the community as well. And, that idea grew into The Chef’s Table.”
Prepared by Chef Craig, meals arrive piping hot and ready to eat. Using fresh, real ingredients, the meals are perfect for families that want something nourishing to eat but don’t have the time to do it themselves.
Most of the weekly menus are adapted from recipes Chef Craig has had on his restaurant menus over the years like the pineapple rum-glazed shrimp or sautéed chicken with a plum tomato basil-cream sauce.
The menus change weekly and are posted on the company’s Facebook and Instagram pages. Customers follow their social media accounts and comment below the menu item they would like to order each week along with a half hour time frame in which they would like to accept the delivery.
“Then I reach out to each person individually to confirm the address and delivery time,” says Denise. “And, if you’re not on social media, don’t stress – we can text you the weekly menus instead!”
Monday family-style meals cost between $70-85 and feed 4 people. Tuesday and Thursday are reserved for individual salads with marinated grilled chicken or shrimp and cost $15-20. Wednesday is the company’s “switch up day” with individual rice bowls, soup and salads, and chicken pot pies for $15 each. Customers also have the option of ordering the Monday menu for cold delivery Tuesday morning.
“So far, our best sellers have been our sautéed free-range chicken with Madeira wine, smoked ham, and melted Gruyere and our sautéed gulf shrimp with plum tomatoes, white wine, and fresh herbs,” Chef Craig says. “Customers are also fond of our citrus-ginger marinated pork loin with roasted shallots and East End cider gravy.”
Chef Craig just installed a custom pit smoker, so customers can be on the lookout for ribs, brisket, pulled pork, wings, and rotisserie chicken in the future. “Luckily, I get to be his official taste tester,” laughs Denise.
Although The Chef’s Table Long Island is only available in West Islip, Babylon, Bay Shore, and Brightwaters right now, this delicious duo shows no sign of slowing down any time soon.
