Halloween is around the corner and Long Island’s haunted houses are terrifying fright-seekers in the scariest ways possible! Undead actors, gory props and tortured screams will have the bravest visitors pleading for a way out. Being scared half to death seems to be a great way to work up a serious appetite. Make sure you cap off your night with cozy pub food and great company as you recount your night full of fright! In the spirit of a truly horrifying Halloween experience, the haunted houses featured here are best suited for adults!
Hempstead House of Horrors has been transformed into a centuries-old Vampyres’ Lair. You will have to navigate the mansion’s hallways, secret rooms and crypts to find your way through the historic Hempstead House. Be prepared to encounter Vampyres and nocturnal creatures at every turn. It’s up to you to find a way out and escape with your life! Once you have escaped, make your way down the road to The Wild Goose. Favorites include the Lobster Cappelini, Steak au Poivreand the Chocolate Soufflé.

Bayville Scream Park features not one but six haunted attractions! According to local lore, the town of Bayville was once overrun with vampires and ghouls. The townspeople found themselves in negotiations with the local vampire, Barnabus Bay. He agreed to lock himself and the creatures in his home, the Bloodworth Haunted Mansion. The only caveat was that they would be let free to feed for the entire month of October! If you also find the need to feed, head over to the Mill Creek Tavern. Favorites include the Rigatoni & Blackened Skirt Steak and Buffalo Chicken Spring Rolls.

Schmitts Farm Haunted House has been a community staple for the past 23 years. Every year the Schmitt brothers team up to design dreadful rooms and a creepy cast of characters to ensure a terrifying experience for their guests. After you have successfully made your way through the Haunted Mansion, you’ll have to endure the Haunted Corn Trail. If you have ever watched “Children of the Corn” plan on your imagination getting the best of you! Once you’ve had a chance to collect your wits, take a drive over to Changing Times Pub. An ice-cold beer from one of their 20 taps will help calm your frazzled nerves. Favorites include the Beer Cheese Soup and the Hot Buffalo Wings.

Deepwells Haunted Mansion is filled with the makings of your worst nightmares. Each room is more horrifying than the last as you make your way through this haunted house. From scientific experiments gone awry to creepy clowns, you won’t be getting through this without a few panic inducing moments. Just when you think you’re done, you still have to make your way along the Terrifying Trail – through the woods! Once free, head a half mile down the road to the St. James Public House. This neighborhood pub is filled with St. James history and features drinks named after historical characters. Favorites include the Bacon Mac & Cheese and Long Island Duck.

Darkside Haunted House is creepily located in the center of a deserted field. If you can muster the courage to step outside of your car, you are going to be in for the fright of your life! This haunted house is filled with high-intensity frights, horrifically detailed scenes and professional scare actors that will be going the extra mile to scare you to death. Being way too chicken for this one, I’ll plan to meet up with my bravest friends later at North Tavern. Favorites include the Filet Mignon Stack and Grandma’s Pierogi.
