We food-lovers gotta stick together: When it comes to covering the cool things of the culinary world, we count ourselves in good company with FOOD52home to community of cooks and eaters exchanging recipes, ideas and more. There’s nothing we love more than trying out one of their recipes or tips —so we’re republishing select new pieces to spread the love.

Confession: I haven’t had a kitchen table since 2014. First, because I thought a couch was a better post-college investment. And later, because I only had room in my postage-stamp-sized apartment for that couch.

My roommate and I make it work—she loves cheese, cured meats, and crackers, and I’ve become a master plate balancer. But even after three years of practice, maneuvering knives, forks, and spoons can throw a wrench in our flow. It’s a challenge to balance a plate on your lap as you slice salmon or fork a fried egg. Meals sans utensils mean we can focus on what’s important: eating.
