Introducing our First-Ever U-Pick Awards

Here’s your chance to tell us who makes your favorite lobster roll, rosé, and more.

If Paris owns the springtime, Long Island could make a strong case for owning summer. From east to west—and Sound to Ocean—our region is home to world-renowned beaches, lush hiking trails and historic lighthouses. It is also home to world-class drinks, farms and food.

If you’re a regular reader of Edible, that last sentence shouldn’t at all surprise you. Here, we tell the story of how Long Island eats—and of who’s to thank for feeding us—every single day. Occasionally, we also like to tell you what we think you should eat, drink and do. We tell you where to go in Montauk for a poolside drink and meal. We tell you where to go for some seriously sinful mac & cheese once the bathing suits are tucked away. We tell you where to go for fruit pies during the summer, and where to go for warming coffee-based drinks when it snows. We tell you a lot, but we also love to listen.

A couple of weeks ago, we published a story on the 5 Lobster Rolls on the South Fork That You Should Be Eating. Within a week, that story garnered 271 reader comments and 184 shares. Readers from all over the island wrote in to tell us what they thought.

“I have eaten almost every one!” wrote one reader, with a cry-laughing emoji.

“Have to add Kingston’s in Sayville,” wrote another.

When we were done reading through all of these comments, we were left with one overwhelming thought: It’s time we put together some U-Pick awards.

So that’s exactly what we’re doing—and we’re accepting nominations now. This is your chance to tell us which local eateries and producers are making this Long Island summer so special (and tasty). We want to know where you’re eating, what you’re drinking, and what’s making you go back for seconds—maybe even thirds.

In doing so, you could be winning your favorite local establishments some wonderful prizes, too. The winners of each category will receive a profile on Edible Long Island’s website, the opportunity to do a special Facebook Live with us, and eternal pride, glory and bragging rights. For nominating them—and then voting—you could win tickets to some awesome Edible events, too.

So what are you waiting for? Check out the categories below and make your nominations. We’ll be accepting nominations until August 1, at which time we’ll open up the awards to a popular vote.

Did we miss a category you’re passionate about? Email us and let us know. Can’t see the form below? Place your nominations here.
