Pedals to Pours with Brew Crew Cycles and Shipyard Brewing Company

“Booze cruise” has taken on a whole new meaning as Brew Crew Cycles gains greater momentum in its sophomore year as it coasts through the craft beer scene in Riverhead. And now, starting with a special ride on August 18, this family-owned tour company is adding another gear to its model: brewing company intensive tours.

Together with Shipyard Brewing Company, they’re making happy hour even happier as they take 42 riders—including two lucky winners of Edible’s giveaway—out to visit Digger’s, Joe’s Garage, and Vines and Hops. At each stop, pedalers will be offered discounted tastings and drinks, branded swag, fun giveaways, and photo booth memories they can hold on to long after the suds in their glasses are gone.

So how did this progression come about?

“[Shipyard] wanted to do a more out-of-the-box experience to help Long Islanders embrace the craft beer culture … a different way to have people experience their beer, other than just a bar takeover,” said Victoria Clacherty, one of nine co-owners of Brew Crew.

And there’s no doubt that this will be exactly that. With a fun set-up that is essentially a covered picnic table on wheels, each accommodating 14 pedalers, there’s really nothing else quite like it.

“Our tours add another level to having a beer after work,” she shared about the program, which occasionally stops at bars but usually visits breweries like Long Ireland, Moustache, and Crooked Ladder. “It’s not just about drinking; it’s as much about enjoying the company, making new friends, and getting some exercise.”

But most importantly, Victoria pointed out, “It’s a nice way for people to get to familiar with the area, especially since a lot of the people who live here don’t even know we have breweries! So it’s important to us to be a part of bringing people in to the Riverhead area, helping the town grow, and increasing tourism to a welcoming community. That’s the root of what we do.”

Needless to say, she and the team were thrilled to partner with the popular Shipyard brand, especially since stopping at restaurants increases the reasons to visit Riverhead and offers non-beer drinkers and multigenerational guests options they can partake in.

This and their usual 2.5-hour tour are both accessibly priced at $35 per person, plus tastings, with the season running from April to November, and booking fast for those crisp, welcome fall days. Weekend dates book up fast. However, for the rest of the month, you can still snag a seat on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays for late afternoon push-offs that launch only seven minutes by foot from the Riverhead LIRR train station.
