If you’ve got an Olympian appetite, Ian Russo has got the burger for you. But you’ll have to hurry, DirtyBurger’s Olympic Burger will only be available during the Summer Olympic Games in Rio (August 5-21).
Before I tell you what’s in it, let me talk “dirty” to you for a moment.
Chef Ian Russo created the Dirty Drunken Ribeye steak – a seasoned and spiced, charred slab — at his Manhattan restaurant, IAN, in 2007. It won New York Magazine’s “Best Steak in the City” award, and Russo won the moniker the Dirty Chef. The name has stuck like a spicy steak rub and the dirty keeps going.
In 2013, Russo came to Plainview and opened DirtyBurger, where he keeps getting dirtier and dirtier – in the good way. Today, Russo has 16 trademarks on his “dirty” products including dirty burger, dirty spice, dirty honey, dirty chef and even dirty chocolate.
Back to The Olympic Burger. This bad boy is 7 ounces of all-natural, hormone & additive free Angus beef, Dirty-dipped and honey-grilled on a toasted Brioche bun topped with DB sauce, fried onions, cheddar cheese, a fried egg, and dirty bacon. The Olympic Burger is $17.95 and comes with Dirty fries or – of course – Olympic (onion) rings.
“The Olympic Burger was created in honor of the athletes competing this month in the summer Olympics. I chose a high protein mix of egg, beef and dirty honey for the burger and added a little something extra with the fried onions, cheese and dirty bacon for flavor. It’s the perfect meal to accompany your Olympics viewing,” explains Russo.
Just in case you haven’t already realized that DirtyBurger is not your average burger joint, here’s the dirt on Russo.
He is a New York Technical College’s School of Hotel and Restaurant Management graduate who has worked in Hawaii, Paris, Beijing and Belgium. Before opening IAN’s, he was sous chef at La Reserve in New York City, Le Chantilly and the St. Regis Hotel where he helped open Franco-Asian restaurant, Lespinasse.
At DirtyBurger the atmosphere is more casual and you can watch the Olympic Games on T.V. while crushing your burger. Russo himself will be keeping a particular eye on the soccer, volleyball, rugby and tennis. And fear not, non-carnivores who want to get down dirty too; there are dirty veggie and gluten-free options too!
