The Ducks, Barbecue and Father’s Day

father's day Long Island Ducks

“Hey…Dad? You wanna have a catch?”

If you have any true-blue American blood coursing through your veins, Ray Kinsella’s words to his father, in the classic Field of Dreams, should bring a lump to your throat. Wouldn’t we all love just one more opportunity to have a catch with Dad? If you share this wistful sentiment, then bring Dad down to Bethpage Ballpark in Central Islip on Sunday to cheer on the Long Island Ducks and enjoy a Father’s Day barbecue and Catch on the Field prior to the game.

The Ducks, our three-time Atlantic League Champions, are taking on the Lancaster Barnstormers on their home field in Central Islip beginning at 1:35 p.m. Two hours prior to the first pitch, the Ducks will host a Father’s Day barbecue in the picnic area. Centerplate, caterers at Bethpage Ballpark and at hundreds of other sports, entertainment and convention venues across North America and the UK, will be serving a traditional, all-you-can-eat barbecue featuring hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, ribs, roasted corn, tossed salad, potato and macaroni salads, chips, snacks, watermelon, cookies, and non-alcoholic beverages (beer from Blue Point Brewing Company, Brooklyn Brewery and Roscoe Beer Company is available for purchase at the ballpark). Tickets to the barbecue, which includes the game are $30 each.

The “Catch on the Field” will run from noon to 12:15 p.m. and includes a souvenir Ducks logo baseball…and all the photos you want to take! Tickets to this Field of Dreams moment are $40 each, which includes the barbecue, as well as the game. Bring your own mitt. After the game, kids of all sizes can run off some of that barbecue when the Ducks let “Kids Run the Bases”, sponsored by Bethpage Federal Credit Union.

Tickets are, naturally, going to go fast. Give the Ducks ticket office a call at 631.940.8499. Happy Father’s Day and play ball!
