As the weather turns crisp and the leaves begin to fall, usually we run in from the cold and devour some comfort food and warm drinks. Today, we choose instead to discover a place that has long been on our list of places. The Hollow Creamery in Carle Place was worth waiting for. It’s one of those impossibly cool places where the kitschy décor matches the intense vibe inside.

The Hollow Creamery is known for its ice cream and coffee beverages. Each flavor is made in-house and the craftsmanship and fine ingredients are well noted. Whether you’re seeking a cold dessert, or a warm sip the deliciously blended lattes, respite is offered not only from the cold, but the whirlwind of activities that seem to come hand in hand with the approaching holiday season.

The boys both want strawberry ice cream. “One” scoop is delivered in a heaping mound of goodness that we take back to our table. A family of four sits next to us and the quiet that comes with each bite between the four children is welcomed in the relaxing space. The kids take a few bites before finding their way to the cozy couch and armchair that welcome patrons who are able to sit and use the shop’s WiFi service.  I dunk my spoon into the abandoned cup and am grateful for the smooth strawberry flavor that meets my tongue. Real chunks of strawberry are underneath each bite. Truly good, homemade ice cream, made with only the best ingredients, is often like coming home to me. It takes me back to my childhood and everything that comes with it.

The worker at the counter takes time to speak about the ice cream and coffees. As he is talking, I see an electric guitar connected to an amp beside him on the floor. He eyes light up; his passion for ice cream rivals his passion for his guitar. He plays between customers in the store, which amplifies this place’s “coolness factor.”

We highly recommend a visit to this wonderful establishment, but call ahead; it will move to a new undisclosed location January 1, and one doesn’t want to be left out from experiencing this lovely and relaxing place.
