This is the last weekend of the 2015 Long Island Fair, so if you haven’t been yet, it is time to scoot over there and check out the displays of culinary, art and hobby items handcrafted by your fellow Long Islanders, as well as enjoying shows (the jugglers are our perennial favorite, but the new TimberWorks Lumberjack Show is pretty awesome and includes loud power tools and hokey jokes), traditional music, and the old-style carousel.

There will be two corn-husking competitions; the one in the afternoon (3:30 pm) is especially for kids ages 5-12. Sadly, the dining options are more standard burger and dog fare than celebration of local cuisine, but there are giant turkey legs and roasted corn, and the McKenzie’s Pumpkin Hard Cider from West Seneca, NY from the beer truck was a happy revelation of refreshing crispness with a touch of cinnamon. It also packs a punch so take it slow and easy! You can also purchase fresh organic veggies from the Restoration Farm tent near the entrance.
And if you want to save money on entrance fees, arrive before noon on Saturday or Sunday October 3 and 4. All tickets are $7 between 10 am and 12 pm. On Friday and after noon on Saturday and Sunday, they go up to $12 per adult and $8 for children 5-12 and senior citizens. Fair hours are 10 am – 4 pm Friday and 10 am – 5 pm Saturday and Sunday.
