As you plan your Thanksgiving menu, there are still opportunities to get fresh, local, organic produce to inspire and complete your holiday table or make that dish you have to take to your mother-in-law’s even more noteworthy.
The farm stand at Restoration Farm in Old Bethpage will be running on Saturday, November 22 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Tuesday, November 25 from 3 to 6 p.m.
Grower Caroline Fanning tells us she expects to have cabbage, potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, lettuce, kale, winter squash and broccoli, which sounds to us like the beginnings of some terrific sides or vegetarian main courses. And, if you’re lucky, she may also have Brussels sprouts, onions and garlic.
Farm fresh fare can often just be roasted with olive and butter in the same oven as the bird and be spectacular, so we like the easy sound of that. And kale and broccoli lend themselves to a simple sautĂ© with garlic and oil. Again, simple solutions can be delicious…when the produce is excellent.
Happy hunting and gathering!
