For those of us who are not fortunate enough to be in kinder, more tropical locales nibblin’ on sponge cake while watchin’ the sun bake, I bring glad tidings: Saturday February 22 is National Margarita Day!
Yes, every year on February 22 our nation stops and pays homage to this beloved concoction of tequila, triple sec and lime juice. On the rocks or frozen, we love do love our margaritas. Ever curious about such “holidays”, I search the internet for some cultural or historical background on this day of recognition. Somewhat akin to searchin’ for my lost shaker of salt, I found nothing more than an official website for National Margarita Day 2014 and, you know what, that is good enough for me.
My local go-to destination for margaritas is Besito in Huntington (there is one in Roslyn, too) and thankfully, Besito will be in full-on margarita mode on Saturday serving some of their signature margaritas: Besito Patrón Margarita (Patrón, Cointreau, freshly squeezed lime juice and pomegranate-tangerine juice, served on the rocks), Besito Jalapeño & Pepino Margarita (finely sliced jalapeño and cucumber muddled with fresh orange, agave nectar, lime juice, Avion tequila and Licor 43, served on the rocks), Partida Natural Margarita (Partida blanco tequila, agave nectar and fresh squeezed lime juice, served on the rocks) and La Casa Margarita (a frozen margarita with tequila blanco, triple sec, fresh lime juice and pomegranate-tangerine juice).
Warmer and sunnier days are in our not-too-distant future, in the meantime I intend on grabbing that frozen concoction that helps me hang on. ¡Salud!
