This Friday, January 17, Patchogue’s BrickHouse Brewery will host a fundraiser for Ursala Altomare or the “warrior goddess,” as her friends lovingly call her. Altomare has been holistically battling leukemia since diagnosed in October 2013. Her conscious decision to forego conventional treatment is an expensive proposition, and not covered by insurance, because it doesn’t follow traditional medical protocol.
The event, created by friends Khiara Scala and Ryan Broderick, will feature local musicians Heavy Duty Super Ego, Soundswell, Noahs Arc, I am Tim, Jellyband and Pauline Salotti and Friends. BrickHouse Brewery and Roast Coffee and Tea Trading Company‘ s collaborative craft Main St. Mocha Porter will fill the pints. Local businesses have donated tons of great goodies for a Chinese auction; there will also be face painting and live drawing.
It’s a wonderful night to share with friends and support holistic healing, which Ursala and her husband, Phil, have made a point to practice since before her diagnosis. As the owners of Sacred Gardens Nursery Farm and Market in Center Moriches, the young couple has created a place for the community to share natural goods, ideas and services. In addition to selling locally grown organic produce, farm fresh eggs and plants and flowers, Phil and Ursala host local artisan markets and teach classes on natural living.
Doors open at 7 p.m. and music is scheduled upstairs and downstairs through the night. There’s a $10 cover at the door. For more information and to follow Ursala and her fight and to make donations to her cause, visit her community fundraising page here.
The BrickHouse Brewery and Restaurant is at 67 West Main Street in Patchogue. map
