Bah, humbug! Homecooks, consider giving yourself a present of dining out on Christmas Day and make reservations instead of the traditional ham, prime ribs, lasagna or much to maligned fruitcake. (Ever the optimists, we are always looking for astonishing fruitcake recipes.)  West to east, sort of, we have discovered 10 restaurants that will tear open the shutters, throw up the sashes and serve up a resplendent holiday feast that would impress the likes of Ebenezer Scrooge.

Burton & Doyle Steakhouse – Great Neck, traditional steakhouse menu along with some holiday specials, 1 to 9 p.m.

Brasserie Americana Restaurant at the Inn at Great Neck – Great Neck, new French eatery offering breakfast from 6 to 10:30am, lunch from 1030am to 4pm and dinner from  4 to 11 p.m.

Eric’s Italian Bistro – Mineola, traditional bistro serving Italian holiday specialties from 1 to 9 p.m.

Polo Steakhouse at the Garden City Hotel – Garden City, offers an elaborate brunch with seatings from 11:45 to 2:30pm & 3 to 5:30pm, including unlimited mimosas and bloody marys, followed by an elegant 3 to course, prix fixe traditional Christmas dinner (a la carte menu also available).

West East All Natural Bistro & Bar – Hicksville, Jay Jadeja and staff are serving up a special holiday family to style meal (a la carte menu also available), 1 to 9:30 p.m.

Morrison’s   to  Plainview, casual, fun and inventive gastro to pub menu, 2 to 10 p.m.

Smokin’ Al’s Famous BBQ – Massapequa Park, southern barbecue menu, 1 to 10 p.m.

Ting – Huntington, upscale Asian fusion restaurant, 11:30 to 10 p.m.

Jackson’s – Commack, casual, fun and inventive gastro to pub menu, 4 to 10 p.m.

Curry Club – East Setauket, lunch buffet and regular dinner menu offered at this traditional Indian eatery, 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
