A round up of indoor markets that will warm your belly and soul.
The onset of winter and the procurement of fresh produce do not need to be mutually exclusive. In fact, in our neck of the woods, we are blessed with several indoor farmers markets, as well as a number of farm stands/markets that stay open at least through the winter holidays. Root vegetables such as potatoes and carrots, apples, cider, eggs, cheese, smoked meats, baked goods, jams, honey and even fresh hydroponically grown lettuce and greens are some of the winter offerings. In the winter issue of Edible Long Island, we profiled three local businesses with strong ties to our winter market scene; Duck Island Bread Company, The Big Cheese and Thera Farms. Stop by, say hello and stock up for your week. Our winter farmers markets embody a sense of community spirit that will warm both your belly and soul. (If we missed any markets, please let us know.)
