At Edible Long Island, we don’t just talk about food, we get elbow-deep into making it, too. The proof is in, perhaps not the pudding, but definitely in the cookies!

Leandro de Cuba, 6, the son of Edible Long Island contributor Natalia de Cuba Romero, took first place honors in the junior culinary class at the Long Island Fair (held in September at Old Bethpage Village Restoration) for his Oatmeal Cranberry Walnut Chocolate Chip Drop Cookies, while Natalia’s Banana Bread earned the second-place ribbon in the adult category.

“The secret to good cookies is chocolate,” says Leandro. This is clearly a guy with a future in the kitchen.
