Please allow us to introduce ourselves. We are Edible Long Island, the newest member of the Edible Communities family, joining our sister publications Edible East End, Edible Brooklyn and Edible Manhattan. Founded in 2002, Edible Communities is literally a community of nearly 80 publications in the United States and Canada that share a common commitment to the simple celebration of local food.
From the Queens line to the East End, North Shore to South Shore, Edible Long Island will narrate and celebrate the stories of what we eat and drink, season by season, through our print magazine, website, social media and tasty events.
Nassau and Western Suffolk counties are blessed with a vibrant and diverse population that likes to eat. We shop, cook, drink and dine out, a lot! We also raise chickens and livestock, grow kale hydroponically (in the winter!) and brew our own beer and kombucha tea. There is so much going on in the kitchens and backyards of our suburban communities along the LIE and LIRR. Come join Edible Long Island as we explore and serve up the local story behind our food and drink through the words and pictures of the farmers, fishermen, chefs, merchants, brewers, vintners, artisanal entrepreneurs, home gardeners and home cooks who feed us.
Betsy Davidson is the editor of Edible Long Island.
