Summer Fridays have you wondering what there is to do with your newfound freedom? H2O: Seafood & Sushi in Smithtown has a solution for Long Islanders: a new Seafood, Brews & Blues series that launched the first week of June.
“We wanted to do something fun and different, and showcase some great seafood [while taking] advantage of the outdoor space we have,” says H2O executive chef Wayne Cafariella.
Part one of this equation is, of course, the seafood. Chef Wayne Cafariella breaks out the 55-ounce steel drum for a weekly crawfish, blue-claw crab, or even lobster boil, depending on the catch and feature. Since they focus on seasonal seafood, the beat of the drum solo depends on the will of Neptune, as does the price. You can expect to pay $24 to $29 for your meal, which may be accompanied by mussels, clams, red bliss potatoes and corn on a cob; the exact price and menu will be made available weekly on their website.
Brew is represented by our island’s very own Montauk Brewing Company, founded by lifelong friends—Eric Moss, Vaughan Cutillo, and Joe Sullivan—living the East End dream. For just $4 a pull, diners and drinkers can enjoy their Montauk Summer Ale, available only from March through August. Characterized as a light caramel malt with a “bold, yet refreshing finish,” this is sure to be a prime pairing with the light flavors of fresh shellfish.
Live acoustic blues rounds out the last part of this failsafe formula for kick-starting a weekend on a high note. Me Gusta Acousta, a local duo playing classic rock and pop across Long Island, is the weekly act. Jim Warrick is lead crooner and strummer; Mark Rowser provides percussion and the sounds of the sax. A much in-demand act that might be recognized by patrons of the Park Lounge in Kings Park, Jackson Hall in East Islip, Ruvo and C’est Cheese in Port Jefferson, and the Parlor House in Sayville, they’ll be performing a three-hour set on H2O’s patio from 5 to 8 p.m. every Friday evening through the summer.
The fun times began June 3, but you have until September 1 to jump in. Check it out and let us know what you think!
